The dreadful, monotonous space that every child hates is the school. Society traps us in the dull brick buildings to stuff our heads full of its ideas and evils. Walking up to the door of the prison, one perceives the immense scale of the building’s structure, which the designers hoped would quiet the fears of people entering. It does exactly what the designers thought it would, people are impressed with the size of objects, and because the school dwarfs all who enter, people look upon it as wonderful. Parts of the interior remain suspended many feet into the air, but other objects are restricted to human scale, to give the occupants a feeling of mastery over the building.
When the tone sounds for class to start, the students march sullenly to their classes, as if apprehensive of the executions about to happen. The teachers appear like generals commanding incompetent ants. Their faces glow with glee as the tedious process of destroying the students’ individualism takes place. They split the students into three large wings, the age-old concept of divide and conquer. The students try to pay rapt attention in class, but the monotonous drone of a teacher’s voice often puts them to sleep. They are not paying attention to the words, but the incessant chanting attacks, with silent steps, the individualism of the students. The collage of colors in the carpet sensually weakens the brain’s defenses, exactly what the designers wanted.
Food, in much variety, is served in order to support the bodies of society’s next generation of hopeless blobs. Lunch becomes such a horrific din, the fans, motors, and speech, that thought can no longer happen. The evils of society are engraved into the students’ minds without their conscious consent. The classes stretch on until early afternoon, when the students scurry out of the building like ants, carrying tiny bits of information to, unknowingly, build up the evils of society.
