Origin

Lances of ice sheathed in the eaves
hang in static bulbs like a budding embryo;
torrents of liquid, mercury daggers,
slice and tear the column:
melting floods burrow and sweep down
down down:
“Come, delicious sea!”
until, coalescing in elegant spheres:
drip,
drip,
drip.

Cobalt sky, reflected, waves, silences, waves, silences;
rhythms of grey flecks—penguins blurred—
swim choreographed in brackish pleasure;
dolphins cantillate joy through scattered shadows;
pain, pleasure: emotions wave, silence, wave, silence;
clowns play in coral;
stars move in geosynchronous orbits;
turbidity spawns revolution;
currents circle, tides wave, silence, wave, silence,
conquering Atlantis.

Down, through warm tears, then cold thought:
schools ponder, floating in thick water:
their ignorant disciples
darting from threshers and anemones;
rhetoric oxygenates squid and moray;
depth meditates in blue: ——, silence, ——, silence;
ancient sediment glides, falls deeper.

Heat, like fungi, blooms from vents—
crossed—
lacing the ocean plain:
chasms bolt erratically between poles;
lanterns of linophrynes illuminate
dragon guardians of the depths;
the abyss glistens redhot and alive:
perfect endless Dawn.
