Draw me close, o gusting Wind in lamplit streets
That meander up and down the twilight
And stroll among the yellow windows
Where life’s shadows dance and play
And hide whispered thoughts of memory;
Draw me close to hear Your voice
Speak of wrapping homes in yellow fog
On cool nights when quiet fires flicker
Before laughter and calm the friction
That heats the day;
Draw me close to know the dust
That blows against stone and etches deep
Songs of earth into many cracks that splinter
Into stories that last for generations
Until You flake the stone away;
Draw me close to think of Your eternity
That carries my breath around the globe
And their breath back to me through clouds
And rain and dust devils that spin and fall
Dizzy but delighted among the sand;
Draw me close to see You invisible
Carrying the sky to the ground and leaves
And diving among fireflies that pulse
With small yellow flashes in the lamplight
Painting spheres of dust electric and warm.
